Katelyn George, GCOHC and Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Council Communication Associate
Kate George is a Communications Associate with GCOHC and the Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Council and has assisted in connecting the Labor community in Cincinnati for over a year. Originally from from Akron, Ohio, Kate now resides in Cincinnati where she attends Xavier University. Kate is in her third year at Xavier studying Communications Studies with minors in Public Relations, Gender and Diversity Studies, and Peace and Justice Studies. She will be graduating with honors in May, a full year early, and plans to attend law school in the Fall of 2019.
Kate joined the team at GCOHC and the Cincinnati Labor Council over a year ago and has multiple years’ experience as a barista at Coffee Emporium. Along with working, Kate is a part of multiple leadership positions at Xavier through the Center for Faith and Justice. These positions include being a Companion Group leader, Dorothy Day Immersion Trip leader and coordinator, and Women’s Retreat leader. As well as being involved in the CFJ, Kate regularly acts as an ambassador for many Student Government programs such as Gun Reform Walkout, Mental Health Week, and the women’s empowerment group, “She Can, She Will”. In addition to being involved in social justice and companionship programs, Kate is also a member of Mortar Board Honors Society and is the Vice President of Xavier’s chapter of Lambda Pi Eta National Communications Honors Society. Kate has been recognized for her leadership at Xavier by receiving the Gold X-Key Leadership Award and is esteemed by her peers and mentors.
Wherever Kate goes to study law she will focus on public interest and civil rights in hopes of using her education and skills to better her community. Kate has a passion for social justice and plans to dedicate her career to helping the communities around her.
